Reservations (MacDonald) are shambolic. Called the hotel stating requirements. They took note, confirmed they had the necessary rooms, but asked us to book through Central Reservations. Reservations could not match Booking.com prices, so told us to book through booking .com. Booking.com offer room upgrades which the hotel say is not possible. Booked the best rooms on the site - there were 49 options! None of them related to the actual room classifications the hotel used. We could only tell them we booked the most expensive rooms. The hotel confirmed our requirements, Childs bed, cot, 3 Superior rooms together. On check-in the Reception said there was no record of our requirements, no cot, no child’s bed, and our rooms were on ground, 2nd and 4th floor, and lift is out of action. After restating the requirements receptions said they would see what they could organise while we had a meal. They could not provide one of the rooms we booked, and would not give a refund for the downgrades. We ate in the restaurant 3 of the four nights. Food was pretty basic, small portions, and quite expensive for what it was. Two large glasses of cheap wine cost £28 plus service charge is added without consent.

Not what it was 10 yrs ago
Wonderful room, clean well laid out, love the elimis products and ethos of no disposables . Fluffy robes And good slippers. Water available. Making an effort with fair trade products and local sourcing. Great spa facilities clean and well maintained always our favourite bit of our stay. We have stayed a few times over 10 yrs hence the criticism we've had it better.
Breakfast was not as good as usual. Poached egg tasted like vinegar, potatoes scone hard as a rock, knife could not cut it, cold beans. Continental not very well stocked but could be that some guests were taking huge doggy bags unchallenged. I saw a whole fruit bowl going out the door more than once, is this why the price has increased? Also paid for a back neck and shoulders massage therapist was 5 mins late in collecting me and at 4.05pm, then was out in the relaxation room by 4.28pm, so less that a 20 minute massage with getting changed, it's normally much better.
